HN's Randomised Controlled Trial
Our Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) published in the Emergency Medicine Journal (EMJ) looked at reducing emergency department (ED) visits by frequent attenders using artificial intelligence (AI) and clinical coaching across five NHS hospital sites in England.
One group (the intervention group) received AI-enabled clinical coaching, while the other (the control group) received usual care.
Results showed a significant reduction in healthcare consumption when comparing the intervention group to the control group.
Comparison between intervention and control groups
34% reduction in emergency attendances
24% reduction in non-elective admissions
25% reduction in bed days
Patient feedback was positive, with 94% of patients reporting the service helped them manage their health better.
Our data-guided, whole-person clinical coaching approach led to a 46% reduction in mortality among men over 75.
Findings published in the EMJ from HN’s randomised controlled trial conducted over 7 years in 8 NHS trusts enrolling ~1,700 patients. Patients were followed up over a period of two years
This research demonstrates the potential of combining AI technology with personalised clinical coaching to improve patient care and reduce strain on emergency departments.
